Our Story
Beginning as a post production editor in 1982, then working up to a news studio director at the SABC, Peter Groenewald has led a multifaceted career in the film and television industries as a producer, journalist, video editor, director of photography, and drone pilot. Equipped with expertise that spans every aspect of the production process, he established Active Blue Productions in 1995 with the vision of capturing thought-provoking narratives, pertinent sociopolitical stories, and compelling documentaries.

Peter’s work has transcended boundaries and embraced the human experience in all its complexity. His relentless passion for his craft has seen him cover everything from the 2011 Christchurch earthquake in New Zealand to the 2021 Mount Nyiragongo eruption in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In addition, he has travelled to Egypt, South Sudan, Rwanda, Senegal, Botswana, and Namibia in pursuit of stories that reveal the beauty of diverse cultures, the resilience of the human spirit, and the need for compassion.
Locally, he has produced work for the SABC, Carte Blanche, KykNET, 50/50, CNN, the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) and many more, and was a finalist in the 2010 Discovery Health Journalism Awards in the Television Health Journalism.

Established as a production company
Active Blue Productions acquired its Commercial RPAS Drone Licence in 2016, expanding its capabilities and adding a new dimension of insight to everything from feature films to renewable energy applications. As the journey continues, Peter and his team remain committed to crafting powerful narratives, challenging perspectives, and inspiring positive change.
